I found this yesterday at an old ghost town in Ohio.

This picture on the right is the one I dug. I found a picture online that matches but no information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The site that I found it was late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The site has a ton of history and hopefully will produce more in the future.

It looks to be a GAR reunion badge. The GAR was the Grand Army of the Republic and was an organization for Union Army Veterans from the civil war. Great find.

Thanks so much for the fast reply. I was super excited when I found it. The history of the piece is what I love. It’s going in my display case.

Dig in a little....
They had encampments/reunions in multiple areas.
Folks welcomed them.
There may have been a nearby post you can find some history on and some pictures and meeting minutes..., but the encampments around here were often at parks. Lots of tents.
Such parks turn up multiple relics from the encampments. I don't want to know ,or have you mention your site ,but if not a homestead where some one dropped or discarded a badge , you might be on or near such an encampment.

Great recovery ,Congrats!

Thanks for the great info. It’s an old ghost town that I luckily stumbled onto. I hunt with my brother and he secured the permission. It’s loaded with relics from the period but not much in the way of coins. There are no structures left which makes for some hard hunting getting through the thousands of nails and other building materials from it being torn down. But...finds like this make it all worth it.

Gar reunion badge for civil war vets. I found a similar one for Wisconsin Civil War vets in my backyard in central Pa, a few years ago. That is a nice find.
