In the morning we tried a new field that we both felt confident about. It was the other side of a stream to our Saxon & Roman Track-Way sites. It was on a slope with dark soil towards the stream end & it had curving lumps/boundaries on the higher ground. What it didn't have was ancient finds or signs :icon_scratch:
So after getting the usual mix of modern finds, we decided to move.
We wanted to finish the 2 edges of the Shot-gun Alley Site & 1 edge of The Hill Site. Not too much happening there either but I managed to GPS 3 more rare bits of early Saxon pot shards.
5 hours;

3 Scrappies
Tudor Button
Early Fish scale Crotal Bell
Geo Pewter Buckle
Tudor Buckle
Celtic Fibula
1813 Token
1696 Love Token (Sixpence)

Update;
1 of the 3 scrappies turned out to be another coin we need;
BillonAntoninianus of Valerian I 258-260 with a Reverse of Apollo Resting on a Lyre

I really like the scales on the bell Cru! Killer lover token as well. I really like the British Silvers you guys dig... We have your coppers, but man I sure wish we had more of your silvers in the dirt here. Great hunt man.

Wasn't as great as we hoped but it was good enough.

Super finds - Congratulations! :occasion14:

Always enjoy seeing your finds. Like OutdoorAdv, I wish we had more of the coin variety (and other relics) that you find. Thanks for sharing!

What came the pot shards from? I see you find many of these black pottery. :icon_thumleft:
How are the conditions right now, Cru? We had no rain almost 6 weeks now. Soil is dry to the bone and with the fields drilled or plowed it's more than difficult to get good signals out of the dry lumps...

It's always a good day when you find an Audi emblem. Means you are on to some good stuff.

Until I get an expert in, I can only assume the Saxon Pot Shards are the same period as the finds 450-600. I think they are all cooking pots. I wouldn't say many, but far more than Time-team made in over 30 years. This period is crazy rare for pottery, so that's why I need an expert. Some of the black pots, not so gritty & uneven, were Roman period.

Thankfully we have had a bit of rain over the last week, very dry on top, but still a little wet underneath. I could do with lots more rain myself. Last week before the rain, I was smashing load of things out of clay lumps just hoping I won't break a rare find. I've become fairly good at visualizing where in the lump it is - thankfully.

Eyes only find on the way back to the car near the field entrance. The Police drove slowly by, glad they didn't stop & question me about it...lol 'Honestly officer I found it in a ploughed field'!

Crusader your finds are always amazing I cant even imagine hunting in areas that old. Thanks so much for always sharing your finds I would love to have some old piece of history. Keep it up!!!!!

One thing I promised when I first joined is that I would post every hunt (& its keepers), whatever the outcome. So that you got a true picture of all of our hunts, & not just the choice pieces.

I know that some of your hunts are heart stoppers.
(24 Banners)
I also know that some of your hunts uncover targets that are not as impressive to you. I want you to know that I appreciate ALL of your hunts. Some of us here in the Colonies would be very happy to dig some of those "Not so Impressive Targets "
Thanks for the post and congratulations.

Update;
Added the 3 scrappies to top.
