I just ran across this photo last night. My wife is a Tremper and her great grandfather was the owner of Tremper Mound. He dug it in 1909 with his brother before the Ohio Historical Society was allowed to have it's way with it. The only remaining private collection of Tremper artifacts are in my mother in law's possesion so I have fortunately been able to handle pieces from time to time. She has one of the nicest Flint Ridge Hopewell points I have seen. These terra cotta effigies reportedly were recovered from the mound encased in a stone box, and the copper axes were nearby. They look allot like southern cult figurines that could have been traded. Remarkably they still show paint. This is a picture of a picture so the image quality has suffered.

This isn't a very good picture of it, but the only good Copper Bead I have ever found is in this tray. If you look just to the right of the Cannel Coal Pendant that looks like a snowman and between the two rectangular Shell pieces on the right hand side of the picture, that is a rolled Copper Bead from the Hardin Village Site in Greenup County, Kentucky. I have a buddy who has taken a metal detector in there with him and found quite a few of these Copper Beads along with the Copper Snake I mentioned earlier.

I see which one you are talking about, I take it that alot of the rest of the finds you have there are eyeball finds?

Nice display. Thanks for posting.

I'm not sure what you mean by "eyeball finds". If you mean personal finds, then yes they are. Here is a picture of the entire tray. All personal finds. I have around 3,000 or so pieces from this one site. It was a very productive site when we were allowed to hunt it. Unfortunately, we aren't allowed in there anymore.

No, they are all surface finds. This field is very sandy and the artifacts were very easy to find after a good hard rain. I did do a lot of crawling around through the highly concentrated spots though to find the Beads, but the Points, Pendants, Drilled Teeth, and other items were very easy to find while walking.

seger98, check out this link and you can see quite a bit of my collection which is almost entirely personally found and surface found as well. These pictures are about 3 years old so items I have found since then aren't in there.

Wow Steve (Dorkfish) If I need an expert opinion, I know where to go! Absolutely beautiful collection! Thanks for sharing it! If I could end up with a 10th of that I'd be happy.

Thanks guys and gals. Like i said in the post above, that's not all of it since I haven't updated that gallery in a few years. I sent in some new pictures to the guy that runs the site but he never put them on. What you see there is almost 44 years worth of collecting. I found my first point at age 6 and will be 50 in March. I estimate that I have around 15,000 pieces.
