I've been digging shallow targets around the fringes of this area for the past couple of days. I Picked up a ton of clad but just haven't counted it. I talked to a man who was in his 90s a few years ago. He told me this use to be the town swimming hole when he was a kid back in the very early 1900s. His parents use to picnic and swim there so it is about the oldest spot in town I suppose. You can see how it is banked all around like a big pond or small lake would be. It is on the fringe of down town now but he told me how they use to walk through the woods to get to it and swim all day. He said the place was really crowded in the summer when school was out. It is now used for soccer and soft ball. Back in the 40's it was graded and backfilled and the water drained off so it could be made into an athletic field. As I pass over certain sections of it I am getting numerous hits shown as good targets, mostly in the silver range on the lcd of my GTI 2500. However, the hits are at nine" to a foot deep. The place is immacuately manicured and the ground is very hard from the drought we have been having. It is impossible to dig that deep with a handtool and using a shovel is out of the question. It drives me crazy every time I drive by it! Anyway, it's an interesting place with an interesting history, especially when related to a real old timer. Sorry no pics of the clad but I think most of you have seen some haven't you? Monty
