consider the age of the trees.... not very old at all.
I only measured the trees by how wide. And these trees are all 2 1/2 to 3 foot wide I don't have a good camera. I have a cheap cell phone I use. The trees are taken 50-100 ft away. They do look small in my photos, but they are large trees.

Regardless of the age of the trees, I don't see anything that looks like a treasure marker.

I have studied and done some research. I thought Jesse James carved a specific J in a tree. It looks really similar. Actually that was the first thing I spotted. I have been looking over this area for awhile now. And the rock that sets at the bottom of the steep slope, it has a railroad tie underneath it and has a spike in it. And I found wooden water lines that has constant spring from the mountain that runs about 25 feet starts at a tree and is coming down the mountain and goes under this rock. Do you have any idea why this would be. Just really trying to learn and understand. I appreciate all your help.

Are you in an area where Jesse James may have been? Is that tree old enough to have been there and been suitable for carving back then (nearly 200 years ago)? Are you sure the carving is a letter and not just normal bark aberrations (which is what they look like to me)?

Lots of railroad ties have railroad spikes in them. By itself that doesn't mean anything.

Well without seeing the lay of the land, the most obvious explanation that comes to mind is someone had a water trough there for some reason, and some time after it was used, a rock rolled/bounced/fell from somewhere up on that steep slope and landed on it. I can't think of any reason someone would build a water trough from a spring that runs right into a rock. I also can't think of a reason anyone would irrigate a buried treasure.

I still think the trees are just trees.

But the wooden water trough definitely says there was something there at one point. If you've got a metal detector, and permission, get it out and start swinging. You never know what you might turn up.
