I was involved in a project to look for the Mary Scoot 2007, The cargo was copper and wood not wool the old English d looked like an L.

During the project it became clear to me that all was not good. A lot of people invested in this, and everyone was working on no cure no pay. After 9 days we were told all the money had been spent on the hire of the vessel and wages, I was handed three hundred pounds to cover my cost and the job ended.

I went back with a small survey vessel, took a walk down to the harbor spoke to a local fisher man and asked about snags in the area, he gave me a phone number of a local diver.

I called the diver and asked the same questions, he replied, “were are looking”, I told him, then he asked “what wreck are you looking for”, I said id rather not say, he then asked again, well I said the Mary Scott, he said “ it not there” well I said if you know that then you know where it is.

I later met him brilliant diver and researcher had been on ever wreck of that coast, had a barn full of gear and the Log wood cargo of the Mary Scott in the Garden.

He found two wrecks with Log wood one for sure is the Mary Scott, we will know what wreck the Mary Scott is when someone recover the 12000 coins from the wreck, there is a rumor they were American double eagles however that was the pitch to investors in 2007.

Hello Magoopeter

Thanks for the interesting update. I did not know about the later attempts in 2007. I an not sure the 1850 attempt was successful. So its possible some group since then even in 80's or 90s recovered it?

Did you ever dive near Ormes Head? There is another 19th century wreck there from memory from Peru I think from memory?

Looked for a silver wreck over that way, but think it ended up on the beach, problem with wreck at that time, the reporters never had firsthand information and always glossed up the Story Mary Scott was one, the story of the chest being brought on deck full of coins is not correct, 12000 coins is at least four chests. I did look for the fabled Bonnie prince Charles wreck, and although the cannon site we looked is the right period other proof of the two shipwrecked boys would put it further North. Did you work with Kelly?

I forgot to say I don’t think anyone has recovered the chests of coins from the Mary Scott, the Hard hat divers were on a wreck a fisherman snagged, it was too close to shore to be the Mary Scott if you back navigate the journey, and take into account the two wrecks found, are in the right place then I cannot see harbour divers diving to forty or fifty meters, it absolutely black at 40meters there and unless you have a real good torch you would see nothing. I dived the Cam bank at fifty as one of the targets for the Mary Scott was close to that, but I turned out to be part of the Cam bank,
