Treasure coins, 2 & 8 Reales

Re: Treasure coins, 2 & 8 Reales

deepsecrets,
Hi there, Well I have been reading this from the very start of the contest. Foresure I didn't dowse but I thought the contest was great. I thought it was very exciting to see the results.
Now on your rules....
In that last contest people put circles, some small, some large. In any circle there could be anywhere from 1 to 50 Square feet in that circle looking on the map.
So I feel.. Just an idea... :sign13: it would be best to just add a small dot . to the location as to where the item might be hidden. Then maybe even an arrow pointing to the dot. This way the footage can be counted better if 2 or more people happen to get close to each other.
These circles are so big that it could cover 25 square feet or more on the map. So one little dot would give you a better way to measure. Then there would be no disputes. ;D

Just thought I would toss that out there.

Yes, Joy I have thought of that. What I will do is place a 25ft circle based on Google Earth measurements on the image so that folks can use it as a guide. In addition, I will also attempt to accomodate dowsers that have their specific needs such as burying the target raw in the ground for those that feel it necessary, waiting to start the challenge until the correct astrological conditions are present, and even getting an aerial photo of the area after the target is buried if I can arrange that. I don't know how much more accomodating I can be with this.

Jon I acknowledge your point and that the rules needed to be more precise. So, the next challenge (not competition) the rules will be more like this:
Only Forum Members can submit.
3 dowsed locations per Forum Member only - only 1 submission.
Marked target location only on the image provided - no amplifying information.
Location must be within a 25 ft radius of the location of the target to be accepted as a positive "hit" - if more than one person gets within the 25 ft radius, the closest to the target gets the target.
Submissions must be posted on the forum thread - no PM's.
10 DAYS from the time the challenge is posted until the challenge ends.

Now, feel free to suggest any additional rules you think are reasonable and I will consider them.
Very interesting!
This sounds more precise.
Question 1,
Are you going to interpret and establish on the ground the persons X in the pic, then measure to the target?
Question 1a,
Or measure with a scale from the persons X on the picture over to where the target is on the picture?
Question 2,
How will you handle?: Let's say 2 people marked visually 1 location each but 1 of them is further away from the target.
The person that is further away posts text on the picture or in the thread in words that the target is 15 feet due north of their X and this statement puts them closer than the other persons X who posted no text but their X is visually closer.
So are you going to allow text? or just 3 X's on the pic with no words? This scenario could have a bunch of mix n match final answers.

My first inclination would be to use the measurement tools provided on Google Earth and then ground truth it as best as I can - I acknowledge that this will not be precise and if two or more come within that target radius making a final call will be problematic - in that event I may just let the forum members decide who is closest - any suggestions you have will be appreciated. As for text - I think we agree that that was an issue so my choice would not to have folks specify the location with amplifying information such as depth, type of target, etc. The target will be specific - that's what they will be dowsing for.

teleprospector, Thats why I suggested one little dot ( . ) Even an X can be counted as a lot of footage on a map. But a dot well, thats where the item would be. You can't fit to much under a little dot. ;D

Hey Boomdeyada,
I missed you post. Sure a dot would work, but it can't be too small for deepsecrests to see it and it can't be too large so as to cover up detail he may need to mark the ground. I was thinking a thin red X. (or whatever color)

Re: Treasure coins, 2 & 8 Reales

This is what a 25ft radius would look like - on this image it is almost exactly size of the eraser on the end of a No. 2 pencil.

How about a final round for those who are within the 25 feet using a zoomed in pic of the area. If you can't get a good clear zoomed in pic then take a digital pic while standing on a ladder. It won't be directly overhead but oblique enough to see the actual ground location. 1 location each contestant with a deadline to complete. The footage closeness at a new distance and everyone knows these are the stakes.
Maybe a small token for the runners up? (hehe.. asking too much probably)

I'm okay with that...and I guess I can "dig up" some consolation awards if it comes to a tie-breaker.

I would like Jon to fire the starting gun so he has an opportunity to participate when the conditions are right for him - that fair?

Thanks deepsecrets,
I appreciate the opportunity.
If you feel you are ready with the new event (weather permitting for you) and rules, then let's begin, you never know what unforseen occurence will befall us in the meantime, but at least all will know what is expected on both sides.

Agreed - once the snow has melted off here, probably in the next week, we'll give this another shot. Rules and guidelines will be clearly stated and followed. I would like to clearly state that I do not consider this a contest or competition, just a way to for dowsers to practice their skills and be able to provide some measure of feedback, and, if they get a little reward for their efforts, what's the harm? I do expect that someone will get the target and hope there will be others that come very close. So, stayed tuned and let's have some fun.
