Now that's an honest to god treasure story, complete with the old map and everything! This kinda makes me sad though becasue no metal detectorist could have ever possibly come across that treasure (what with being buried 8 feet underground and such). Still an awesome tale. Maybe wouldn't be to crazy an idea to check out that site nowadays, dig down 8 feet and use the detectors to see if those Mexicans missed anything.

Amazing! I live in Guthrie, and have been trying to research to see if any leads to local caches turn up. What a story. Just makes me believe all the more, that treasure is still out there.

The amount of treasure out there is more than we can possibly imagine. A large percentage of every person that lived back then lost or hid away loot of some sort. That's millions of people we're talking about, out of those millions who lost something there are many tens of thousands who purposefully buried a large portion of their wealth all across the globe. And back then someone's yearly wage of just a few hundred dollars, which could very well be in the form of gold coins, could be worth many hundreds of thousands of dollars today - perhaps even millions (especially if their collection of savings contained rare coins like the Saddle Ridge Hoard did - some coins from that hoard are the finest examples known to exist in the whole world).
