Travel laws

Yes you can with most airlines just depends on the alert level at the time just call ahead and the airline will let you know how to carry it. I talked to guy this summer whos gone to England 2 times and taken his detector.

Just got back from Europe with mine. No problems. Packed it in an old hard-sided suitcase and it sailed through. I wouldn't think taking an electronic thing with wires, batteries, etc. as a carry on would be a good idea though.

I just flew from Jacksonville FL to Los Angeles Ca and back the first of this month. I took my DFX, two battery packs, a pack of new batteries, the 9 inch stock coil and the 4.6 elipse along with an old CD play and an Ipod with all the computer attachments and wires. Had them all in the carry on luggage and brought them back home that way also. Had my digging tool and sand scoop in the check in luggage. Told them what I had leaving Jacksonville and didn't mention anything leaving L.A. via Burbank airport. Didn't even get as much as a second glance.

I think travel inside the US is not much of an issue for the carry on stuff. On international flights, when you start changing planes, going back through security, and customs, I do get second glances on some stuff. I have been asked in Iceland to turn my computer on. I was asked in New Zealand to turn on my camera. I would hate to have to put my metal detector together in the security area.
