Well I thought I would show my latest project. The trashiest place on earth. The original section is early 1800's and even the inside walls were log. Has some big additions from around 1870's. Never saw a place with so much trash around it. :BangHead:

The lane leading to the house and the front of house. What little you can see of it.

Pretty neat old home but may be a little past a remodel.:laughing7:

thanks for showing the pictures. You're right, that is one cool house, but unfortunately to far gone. I love peaking into history like that.

Might be hard yo hunt with all the over growth and trash.....but looks like you could be rewarded for your time invested.....love them ol' home places with a great chance for tokens, relics and coins.....good luck in your search for treasures.

Happy Trails,
Gregd

How dare you post those pics! : ) It's like showing an alcoholic a bunch of pics of top-shelf liquor! I've said it before, abandoned houses are like my crack-boy oh boy that looks like fun (well, come fall/early winter anyway-too ticky for me right now : )

The trash part sucks, but best of luck hunting!

I am seriously considering taking a dozer to it. If the land owner is ok with it. Just going to take off an inch or two on top and push the rest into a gully just off to the side of the house about 50 yards. Need to dig the bottles first. The gully is where the bottle dump is for the home. The land owner had started to clean it up near where the lane starts into the house and just never finished. The lane to the home is about 300 yards long from the old road. As I stated in the first post the bridge has been out for decades that came from the little town to the house. Probably not 1/2 mile from the old town but have to drive aroung the back roads to get to it now. It is about a 3 mile circle. Would be pretty neat to see the old house again with a yard or something resembling one again. Even if it is falling in. Had an iron gate at the entrance once upon a time I was told.:icon_thumleft:

That is Awesome! I can't wait to see what you find. Just be careful that the Ticks don't drag you off! :laughing7:

The interior has a relaxed decor. Not overdone with glitz. Deceptively simple yet rugged. The landscaping has been allowed to seek a natural balance with nature. <lol>. I should do real estate brochures for a living.

I actually take a chain saw to it....A dozer might grab stuff and a chance to find something good. Just need room to swing a coil have fun and thx for posting pics...very historical!

The old rotten cans, broken glass, tin roof sections and more modern stuff like the beloved pull tab are beyon belief. What kills me is I know what the potential is underneath. You literally can't put your foot down within about 30 yards of the house and it not be on a rotten can etc. Like I have said before the house was built by a rather prominant family in the history of the old town. The town started a drastic decline in the 1870's when the coal mines opened and the jobs were all in another town about 15 miles away. It was our county seat and now there is almost no sign it ever existed.

Here's an idea maybe you want to ponder.... Get 4 red/ orange/ yellow (or what ever color you want) flags. Or make your own. And just start at a section of say a 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 foot area. Work just that area until it is clean of trash, then detect and dig out all the goodies. Don't move out until you are happy that you are finished it. Then move only 2 flags to make another 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 section that is connected to the last area. This way you get every area. Like connecting the squares. Yes, it will be tedious work. But it will keep you busy for a long time and you just may find that good stuff calling your name! Patience will pay off :metaldetector:

Not a bad idea Lady Pirate.

Have you located the outhouse foundation yet? Has to be there not too far from the house. Then the horse barn. No question this place was built before automobiles.
Are you going to enlist the help of a detector club?

Where do you think they got water from? Hand dug well possibly?

So many questions. <lol>. That place is a mine for possible detector targets. Maybe you will have to cherry pick a logical hot spot and clear that first just to feed your enthusiasm.

I hope you snap pics of your progress and post them.

you found my house 2 more payments and it is mine hahaha

Moonrover.... it has a cistern that is actually under one of the rear porches. I took a pic of it yesterday to post with the ones above but came out a little blurry. I will try to get some more pics up soon. The house is on a ridge only a few hundred yards from a slew on the TN river. Really neat walk down the old road to the bridge that has been gone longer than any of the locals can remember. Will also get some pics of it. I do not intend to get a club involved but do kind of miss having a hunting partner. I used to go with several guys years ago but just got back into the hobby and have yet to hook up with anyone. Did get another great lead yesterday. The man that owns this propery also owns the land where a local told me he knew of several old home sites right on the river. The foundation and cisterns etc. are still visable. May try to locate them in the next day or two and hope they are a little more huntable. The old home above has some huntable areas but is pretty overgrown. Gonna be a better late winter spot. I look like i have been in a cat fight from all the briars. The little town where all this is located is now long gone with only a handful of the old structures left but in the early 1800's it booming little place. Jail, courthouse, 5 saloons, a male college and female prep school etc. Most of the cotton and produce in the county was loaded for transport on the TN river here as well as the incoming freight for the area. Very little documentation on where everything was. As stated above I already have permission to hunt the all of the properties mentioned. I am trying to get a display ready for the little bicentennial celebration in October. Have really been lucky in the fact that several of the residents are really helping me with leads. I am sure lots of this has already been hunted but hope some of these spots have been overlooked. :icon_thumleft:

Woops ....I am starting to reapeat myself. Sorry

Wow,
fun, just may need to keep the bulldozer to the scrub and away from the house. old cabins like that sell quick and the buyer will come and disassemble. we disassembled one from the 1800's, transported the logs and rebuilt it into an awesome guest cabin. Good market for that. what state is this in?

In Tennessee

Just got great news. My best bud owns an excavating company and will clean it up for me. I set up all of his hunting guns and order his equipment at cost so he said least he could do. Now if landowner says ok I am in business. Even gonna get access to little track hoe to pluck small brush and trees and repair road. One days work at most. He knows land owner and has done work for him so who knows may be happy to get it done.

I know a homesite ( chimney and basement hole) which looks promising but for the trash all around. I do like the idea of marking out an area to completely clear-out- just dont know how to pick an ideal place to start. I do know that come fall I'll start working down into the basement hole. good luck with your sites-keep posting.
