Having focused on a Roman settlement (Lancashire England) lately hoping to find a Denarius but being rewarded only with worn out bronzes but also finding some superb finds pre and post Roman in the process.
I decided to return to a permission I've neglected for a while that has a Roman road running directly through it (never had anything in the past)
I resisted the temptation to wander and stuck to where I knew the road runs (it's agger can still be seen I'm many places and also stones litter it's path.
I wasn't rewarded with a Denarius but I did find in the turf directly on the old road
Not brilliant. Can still see the S C on the reverse with Provedentia?

Whatever it is it seems to have been a decent depth! Nicely excavated.

Yes I'd dug a few Georgian (late 18th early 19th century coppers that were just a 2 or 3 inches deep. For its depth the Nox 700 targeted it very well, relatively stable in the 70's and 80's on the vdi
I find at depth coins can be a little misleading and can be mistaken for deep iron except as you wave your coil the beep tends to remain where as with iron you'll pass it over repeatedly and only receive broken signals. I knew as I got down past 6 inches and into a sandier layer that the target would be of age. It's definetly that if nothing else.
