Great looking token and the piece of silver is truly special. One of my customers asked me to keep an eye out for any good deals for a blacksmith vise like the one pictured on that token. I've seen a few, but the asking prices aren't cheap.

Those are some really great finds, nice work. I've seen the term "trade silver" come up several time on this site so I finally decided to look up what it was and thats very cool. My questions is, how do you determine that it is in fact trade silver and not just some jewelry that someone dropped?

Many pieces of the fur trade silver have maker's marks from the early silversmiths of QC.
Many had shops in Montreal and were active in smithing into the early 1800s.
The silver in fur trade has been defined through a period 1680-1820

Guys Brooch is from the trade era, as the other recoveries.
Most are recovered from trade routes, which is either forest, or fields.
I would say if a brooch was found at a city park then the is it trade or a dropped piece of later jewelry.

Beautiful detail in the art work needed to make pieces like that I f I ever laid hands on somethimg like many of those pieces are my heart would skip a beat and quite possibly more than one

Actually the dating of the fur trade era was much earlier. In fact it was just about over by the time reference that you stated.
