I found this figure awhile back while at work. I'm in construction and while gettin dirt brought to me I found this lil' guy. All the dirt came from the canal in INDY. They used whatever they could as fill when they built the canal(glass, bricks, etc). He's fairly heavy for his size, not real sure what he's made of. It could be soapstone possibly but not sure and I dont know what he is actually holdin. All the things I found with him were mid to late 1800's glass mostly. Any idea's ? THANX.. HH

Not a soldier.

Town Crier. He probably had a bell in his right hand.

Seems to be wearing a tricorn hat. I was thinking it was a miniature of a statue of maybe Paul Revere (although he's always seen with a lantern) or George Washington... One of those patriots who might have needed a torch for whatever they were up to???

Town crier - no question about it. His job was to walk around town and call out the news, so it is reasonable for him to have a scroll of paper in his hand. His staff appears to have a lantern on top. Also not unusual for the crier.

Could be a small statue of an early English magistrate or law officer with his tipstave (club) and a rolled up warrant in his hand. Is it possible that the "torch" on top of the staff is a "crown?" Very cool artifact. Sub
