Hello There!
I am a beginner at metal detecting and found this item in an old farm field in Eastern Ontario, Canada......
This item was found about 10" deep, is tapered lengthways and approx. 3" total length. The tapered side seems to be pretty worn from use, whereas the other side looks completely unused.
It is about 1/2" wide at side of the length and very skinny at the other. One side also seems to have a groove in it.
I have soaked it in apple cidre vinegar for a month and managed to get all the rust off (I have included an image with the corossion on it when I found the item). Any ideas are greatly appreciated !!!!!!!!!!!

I think Bryanhasherni is on to something. It almost has to be a tool for splitting wood.

That was my first thought too.

Me to. Loggers use plastic for falling wedges now, but this iron one is the right shape and size to be a falling wedge for loggers using a misery whip, more so than a firewood splitting wedge.
