I'm learning more and more about gems! I live in North Carolina and find some great looking rocks that could be gems. I have this one to show you that is for sure a Topaz Gemstone. I'm going to post more here in the future please check it out.

Thanks JL for that nugget of info. Another piece to the geological puzzle to file away in my brain. Gotta love the web and all the knowledge people share with each other!

Not all topaz does fade. Some are stable. It has to do with colour centres in the crystal lattice and sunlight I believe. (don't ask, to long ago I read about it)

Clear topaz is often called Silver topaz. I've recovered some in NC as well.

Yes and it is also called "colorless" Topaz. They coat colorless Topaz in titanium or a similar metal to create Mystic Topaz. Beautiful stuff.
