Tool Sheath

In my spare time I've been making some digging tool and pinpointer sheaths. These are made from a doubled thickness of 1000 denier, mil spec Cordura fabric. I stitch them on a walking foot sewing machine using Tex 135 twisted nylon thread. The sheath fits Lesche digging tools and either Garrett or Deus pinpointers. It might fit other pinpointers, but those are the two types I have. The sheath width is 3 inches and it's 11 1/2 inches long without any tools in it. It'll fit belts up to 2 1/2 inches wide. The area where the digging tool is inserted is reinforced with 2 inch wide nylon webbing.

I make these one at a time and as I have time. I don't ask for any money up front and will take orders as they come in. As pictured (without the tools, of course), I'm asking $100 and $10 for shipping. If you don't want the laser engraved leather name tag deduct $10. Also if you don't want the sewn in D-ring and the lanyard cable deduct another $10. There are five fabric color choices.

Anyone who wants one can message me and let me know:
1. Fabric color (from L to R in the photo, Charcoal, Ranger Green, Grey, Coyote Brown, Black)
2. Name for the tag if you want that (longer names will be smaller in height)
3. Which side you want the D-ring on (right or left as you look at it)

As I said, I do this as I have time. Some might get their order in a few days , others a few weeks or longer. You only pay when it's done and I'll send a photo of the finished sheath. Payment can be what works for you, but I won't ship until payment is cleared. I do have PayPal and Zelle.

PS. The shown sheath is a prototype sample. I'm not the greatest on a sewing machine, but I'll do the best to make nice, straight seams. As a minimum they will be durable.

I made a mistake on the fabric colors. 2nd from left is the Coyote Brown and 2nd from right is Ranger Green.

Since I don't have any reviews yet, I'll do the complete setup (sheath, name tape and lanyard) for $75 for the first five people who order one. It takes some time to make these so I can't go any lower.

Those look nice and probably much better quality than anywhere else, but, I like the ones that are build into the finds pouch, and I can buy two of those for what you want for one sheath without the pouch. Sorry, it's just about economics and utility for me.

I don't blame you one bit. Not knocking your product at all, other than it doesn't meet my requirements of a pouch sheath pin pointer combo. The one I use wasn't made overseas near as I can tell. It's heavy duty canvas and I've been using it now for about 7 years I think. It's showing a bit of wear here and there, but, still going strong. Cost me about $40 back then IIRC.

I tend to dig with two tools -- a step-on shovel for grunt work, and a Lesche digger for the details. I usually use the shovel, which means this tool sheath would actually get in my way because I'd have to remove the digger to get to the pinpointer. If the sheath were made so that the pinpointer could be drawn without removing the digger, that would be better for my use scenario. (Either make it wider and angle the pinpointer, so it could draw to the front like a sword, or make it longer so there's more space between the digger and the pinpointer.)

I experimented with both your suggestions. The sheath, as is, is 3 inches wide. In order to angle the pinpointer holder so it could be drawn without removing the digger it'd need to be about 5 inches wide....so almost double and fairly bulky. Making it longer so you could remove the pinpointer without hitting the digger would put the tip of the pinpointer at about knee level which could cause kneeling problems for some people. I went with this design because you can raise the digger with the base of the hand while removing the pinpointer without completely removing the digger. I think if it gets too bulky its gonna be a no-go for more people than the way it is now, but I could definitely make a wider or longer one if that's what someone wanted.

For anyone on the fence about these sheaths, I've had the good fortune to obtain one, and would highly recommend them. Granted, I've only been using it for one day of hunting so far, but here are some random thoughts.

First, it seems extremely well made. The fabric is tight and tough, and the seams are very strongly stitched, even double stitched in the stress areas. It has a nicer look and feel than the black nylon sheath that came with my digger.

@Mason Jarr was able to redesign the pinpointer loop a bit to fit my usage pattern, and it works great! I can draw either the pinpointed or the digger without needing to draw the other first. It holds my MI-6 pinpointer very snugly, and also fits my spare Garrett "carrot" pinpointer nicely as well.

The sheath has an open bottom, which is fantastic. Every other sheath I have ever had came with the bottom closed, so any dirt left on the digger would slowly accumulate in the bottom of the sheath. With this design, any dirt just falls right on through.

It was a bit tight getting the belt loop on my Grey Ghost finds pouch, but it did go on and it fits nicely without sliding around a lot (which my old sheath was prone to). And he's already adjusting the design slightly to address the "getting it on there" part.

The laser engraved personalized name tag is a nice touch.

I think these would make great gifts for any detectorist (even if it's a gift to yourself), and the fact that it's made in USA by one of TreasureNet's members is a big bonus, IMO.
