Took a little walk up the Devil's Backbone today!!

Hey all and Happy Halloween!!

We have a two thousand acre plot here in Aiken called Hitchcock Woods. The path that I walked down today is actually called the Devil's Backbone! The land was donated by this family so that the citizens of Aiken could enjoy a stroll or take their horses for a walk. That was back in the late 1800's. It's a great place and I decided to take a little walk myself today (with my MD of course!)

I didn't get a whole lot, but just was astonished that I found anything. Thousands of people walk these woods yearly.

Anyway, as I was hunting, this one tree kept making a loud groaning noise. Creeking as the breeze blew it. Sounded like a coffin opening up. :-\ How cool for Halloween!

I found about $1.56 in clad, an old boy scout kerchief ring, a really cool piece of hand forged iron....looks like part of a fence or gravemarker crucifix!! :-\ :o. The best thing I found was a 1939 wheatie..........could it be a sign of the witch..........(same year my ex mother in law was born!!)

It was alot of fun and a gorgeous day here in SC. I'll try to get pics up when I get my hands on the digital!!

Thanks for reading!

Happy Haunting everyone!!

Two thousand acres of park-like setting where people walk? Man! what a place to hunt. If you ever need a hunting buddy for a weekend just shout. I'm just one of the folks on here who would love to MD that. Keep waving that magic wand and post some pics to whet our appetites.

With that creaking going on, I don't think I would have been going slow enough to get my coil to the ground. Sounds like a place worth a few more visits. Maybe not alone though.
WHAT WAS THAT?!!!!! DID YOU HERE THAT?!!!!!!!

LOL RVB! :D :D :D

I actually did go back out today. I was looking for a place called Tea Cottage. It was built in the late 1800's and burned to the ground in 1970. I wound up not finding it and went on a three mile hike instead........uphill...............BOTH WAYS!!! >:(

I have a map, and will try again tomorrow.

Sorry for not having pics right now folks! I have to borrow my friend's digital.....I've already put in the request!

Moon,
My sister lives in Greenwood. How far is that from you.

Well Kermie..........Got out the ole trusty map of SC and it seems that your sister lives about 60 miles northwest of here. Not a bad little trip.
