Tommy Thompson: Fugitive treasure hunter arrested by U.S. Marshals in West Boca Raton

Kinda looks like me.

No, THIS looks like you!

It blows my mind that a guy with Thompson's brains and cash would still be here in the U.S. I mean the first thing you do when the U.S. Marshall's are on your trail is buy passage on a tramp steamer going to some place like Venezuela. Next, you set up shop at a local bank down there under a different name and create a bunch of shell corporations one on top of the other to hide the source of your wealth. Then you change your appearance radically like chop off all your hair or dye it. Of course you keep a low profile and don't go out flashing big money in clubs etc. It's like he really wanted to get caught or something. At that place he was last spotted living in Vero Beach, FL the authorities found a classic book called 'How To Be Invisible.' Is he dyslexic or didn't get around to reading it??? It's a classic by the way.... I mean hey --- I love the sunshine state as much as the next person, but it ain't worth my freedom! In Thompson's same shoes I would've hauled ass immediately and been knee deep around the globe in beautiful brown women.... Ah, but the whole case makes for a good headline. I guess "Harvey" will now be enjoying the sunshine for 15 minutes everyday in the exercise yard.

Tommy Thompson: Fugitive treasure hunter arrested by U.S. Marshals in West Bo...

Unless he's trying to get the bird ( Brit for jail time) over with and move on to the movie deal, who's gonna play him?

Ps what was his handle on TN?

That made me chuckle...... :laughing7:

"But the question is: Where is all that treasure now?" :icon_scratch:

There's probably a public storage area that is located within a 5 mile radius of the Boca Hilton. It might pay to drive around and look for a guy loading a van around 3-4 am tonight. He's the manager that just told the US Marshalls, nope, never saw the man in the picture, this afternoon:goldbar::goldbar::goldbar::goldbar::3barsgold::3barsgold::3barsgold:

Well you know the feds probably thought that through. They probably surveilled him for quite sometime before busting him. I mean heck, they basically surveil us all according to the news lately. You know this story is going to end one way or another with missing gold and yet another Treasure Hunt!

So Tommy Thompson is the only real pirate to have settled into Boca, and now there may actually be a real pirate cache there!

There are people right now metal detecting the lawns and bushes around that Hilton... heh

I fight for the good guys vs the state * when the state tried to enact several bad laws that would have crippled the legal salvors-- from operating

Saw that on Fox News. Caught him in Florida - what a moron. I would have been somewhere warm without an extradition treaty with the U.S.

dang!!!! he was going to donate 1 gold bar to everyone who attended the cookout!!!! he told me i could find the gold bars,........there are some men in black suits and sunglasses knocking on my door?? .....ok, he told me to pick the,......they just kicked my door in!!!!!,.....the gold bars are located,.....

If he was smart, Thompson would have stashed away enough to stay comfortable in one location, and then put enough to repay the investors and fines in another. Barter a shorter prison stay for the location of the stash to pay off his investors and fines, then live like a king once you get out.

You know, this might play out well for Odyssey too. If Thompson tries to give up the gold in a plea deal, the investors will get paid and Odyssey might get to keep more of what they are finding at the site. That would certainly add to their bottom line, a win-loose-win-win. :-)

If he "stashed"... he will never be able to enjoy it...
There will be people following him the rest of his days.

And The Curse of Oak Island.

"Springtime for Hitler and Germany, Winter for Poland and France . . . ."

"Don't be stupid, be a smarty. Come and join the Nazi Party!"

Anybody that says he isn't smart must be living in Fantasyland! The US Marshall's Office says that he may be the smartest person they have ever chased. I don't know if that means he is really smart, or they are ............ not so much so. I mean, he got a suite at the Hilton for two years, and they never caught him. I think the fact that he stayed in one place for so long without getting caught means that they watched him for a long time, hoping they would lead him to the gold. Doesn't look like that happened. He said he sold the gold for $50 million. Not likely. If he had what was left of $12 million in investor money, and $50 million from gold, he would have left the country. The only reason to stay is because the gold is somewhere in the US.

I knew "Harvey" from about 1978 to the late 80s. I dated his ex-wife some before they got married in '80. After they got married he moved in with her about 4 blocks up Neil Ave. from where I lived in Columbus. I didn't think he was hitting on all cylinders then and I definitely thought he was a crook. Very secretive and distrustful of everyone. A crook doesn't trust anyone because he thinks everyone else is a crook like himself.

Perhaps Thompson, or more likely a lawyer; will share his reasoning in court.
He had purpose in his actions, acceptability in his eyes or he would have done it different. As for the gold. That's his only bargaining chip. Sure he knows that.
With years to get his ducks in a row; what ever plan was made for after arrest must be coming into play.
Allowing arrest would in many cases mean a legitimate defense seemed possible.
A criminal mind views things very different but bad advice and dealing with the wrong people can alter things too.
Elvis was near broke at his death for multiple reasons. A lack of business sense, legal wrangling control given others, and the wrong help sank a great potential.
Recovered only by his ex and proper advice, including pivotal copyrights regarding the images and products law change started after he was gone.
Till Thompson is understood in his version of the how and why I'm left to hearsay and speculation.
Still, as with many ;a cautionary tale.....

Somebody was not happy or the case would have been different.
Heck, maybe prison beats smelling the ocean and wanting to don dive gear when you been handed peanuts for your efforts instead of the envisioned grandeur and your dreams soured.
