Made it out a couple lunch hours this week to a nearby 1800’s farmstead in the park woods. Having fun trying a new mode (Field1) on the Nox at this site I have pounded.

This old gal sounded great solid 27/28 about 5” down on an embankment above an old farm path. Makes #34 silver coin and 135 wheats this year, almost my perfect 1:4 ratio.

I thought this was going to be a button, 17/18 signal. It’s a beer token for Independent Brewing Company’s American division, 1905-1920. I’ve found similar IBC tokens before.

This was a little 10/11 signal, it says “Pat. Mar 10 1888” or something similar, wick adjuster for oil lamp.

This was my mystery find, posted yesterday to What’s It, ended up being the fanciest rouge container ever.

Here’s the handful

Good luck out there!

Those are some good looking finds. That’s a nice compact. Looks like it could be silver? Congrats

Congratualtions on the nice hunt! :occasion14:

Yeah, I thought the compact was something significant when it came out of the dirt and cleaned up almost flawless silver, but alas it is just a well preserved silver plated piece. I’ll definitely keep this one.... somewhere

Nice finds. You have made a lot of hay on those lunch hunts. I'd like to find one of those beer tokens, but they rarely turn up on 18th century sites :laughing7:

Awesome finds, PA...the Merc is in excellent condition the token is sweet and that plated compact definitely has a healthy layer of silver. That's the kinda stuff that gets me going, old, ornate and awesome...back in the day when we took pride in our work. Congrats, Ddf.

I don't see that Independent Brewing Company token listed in the Aqua PA tokens book - nor is it on tokencatalog. I wonder which town it is from? Please post it on tokencatalog.

Thx DDF! I wish it was full of old silver Bust & Seated coins!

Thx! I guess in the 1700’s they paid for their beer with Spanish silver! At least at your Tavern sites.

very nice, love that compact, it is a lot prettier and in better shape than any I have found. congrats on it all, silver, token etc

It’s a Pittsburgh token, I found it listed in Aqua with a link to a pic, TC-347141. Thx

Excellent saves!!!

Pa--your token is not the same as TC-347141 - different initials indicating that it was used by a different saloon-keeper. And, as the notes on tokencatalog indicate, these are from the Pittsburgh area, not necessarily Pittsburgh proper.

Nice finds! What is the other brass piece in the bottom pic that has some intricate design and round hole at the end (in the middle of your hand)?

Thad is probably out metal detecting on his lunch hour, so I will answer your question. Part of a gas light fixture. We dig them all the time at turn of the century house sites. Here is a complete fixture that I found.
