Back to the ridge and furrow field today! It was very damp, but the addiction is real so we persevered! So glad we did, we got musket balls, buttons, pot legs, spindle whorl, thimble, buckle, and patterned lead…! Plus the unidentified bits! 🤔

Oh yes and I got myself a lovely little hammered 😆 xx

So all in all a fantastic day…. Until we got back to the truck… and it wouldn’t start 🙄 so we had to walk homewards covered in mud, clutching our detectors 😂 luckily a friend rescued us so didn’t have to walk the whole 5 miles 😂…. ! xx

The cows are very interested in our activities and seem to enjoy hanging out with us while we dig xx

Well i think this must be the most amazing piece of lead i have ever found…. This is part of a Thomas Becket Pilgrim Badge …. Now the mission is to find the other half 😅xxView attachment 2056282View attachment 2056283
When I first saw it, I was going to say Pilgrims Badge, what throw me was the reverse looked patterned (most reverses I've seen just have the lugs not any pattern)which then throw it in the direction of an early Childs toy from the Elizabethan period. Then I got distracted & moved on, good ID.

I kind of looks now like a piece of lead that was traveling at over a thousand feet per second and hitting something hard.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
Thanks Peps, i suppose not all my finds can be medieval treasures 😆 xx

Love the "oh yes I got myself a lovely little hammered part"!

I read awhile back that there are a few incidents each year on the public footpaths there of people getting stomped by cows...watch out for the ones that stomp :)
