Boy, hot and humid day out there! But found these items this morning on a remote dirt road in Harwich. The two unused rounds of ammo were from a dig several days before at different site but along another old dirt road.

Ten buttons, a one day record find for me, plus one old copper tack. Two small brass thimbles, one crushed and the other in very good condition. Two similar pieces of brass plate? Maybe early firearm related? Close by I found what appears to be a brass tip to a power horn? It's flared on the right end, has decorative rings around it. One small musket ball, and a round brass coin like circle with small handles on each side. It has a circle decoration on one side of it. I have no idea what it is or was for. The two bullets have L C 42 stamped on the left one and D E M (or N) 42 on the right one. I think they might be military?

Thanks for looking! detect august 22 2019.jpg

I don't believe you have a tip to a powder horn there. But you may have the a section from one of these colonial writing kits. I found the glass lined ink pot, and I have found a couple of pieces similar to your piece on other 18th century sites. See item #14 in this picture from the Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution.

Very nice. The buttons tell me that you're on old ground. Bound to be some other colonial era items there somewhere.

Thanks Steve, I think you may be right. I will spend another couple of days at the spot to see if I can find more parts. Does look like it. Found a King George half penny dated 1770 less than 100 feet from where this item was found. Fits right in time wise. Bill

I wish my bod was at the Cod lol sweet finds lots of history sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing

This is the ink pot portion that I found. It is a little glass bottle encased by a brass shell. The brass shell has fine engraved lines around it like your piece. It says "S. Barker" on the bottom.

Thanks! It may very well still be there. Homestead is very early. No foundation, probably a log style plank home as early as 1710. No home on the site in 1890 map. Will update for sure.

Congrats on the multitude of finds! :icon_thumleft:

Sweet finds Bill!
