Got out today to a spot I've wanted to hit for a few years now.

It's pretty far from home but I finally did it. I spotted these from historic aerials from a shot take in 1949. I was also able to see them in the 1934 shot, which is the earliest one available. Unfortunately the Topo's that go back to 1892 do not show them on that map or the map from 1868.
Someone spent some serious cash to have these built. The main building looks like it was a stable based on all of the divider walls. I spent some time here & ended up with nothing except shot gun head stamps & shell casing. Was pretty disappointed.

I went back close to home to a spot that has produced relic's but only 3 LC's.

HH,
Roger

"Someone spent some serious cash to have these built."

No, those structures would cost nothing more than labor, assuming the rocks are "local". With no roof in the 1930's aerial I'll make my first assumption...the house was never completed.

Assumption 2: Concrete foundation...not terribly old.

Assumption 3: If the house was completed after 1892, the roof didn't last long which may have forced the occupants to relocate.

That place looks KILLER! However, I am a bit of a sucker, as they ALL look good to me.

The skeleton key is a really sweet find. Congrats on that beauty.

Best of luck to you!

1. In this area most of the families are "Old Money"

2. The castle looking structure was a stable based on the divider walls.

3. None of the Topos from 1892, 93, 99, 1901, 04, 05, 07, 08, 11, 15, 25, 28 & 31 show anything.

The window sills are missing in every "hole". I can grasp the roof being gone but a rock house would most likely require either iron sills (drilled into the rock) or cemented wood sills, neither of which are visible. The lack of finds really is the first clue, I don't think the house was ever occupied. Great job with tracking down all those maps! Great images as well.

Very coo finds. The spoon looks nice. Is it sterling

With the foundation being concrete, As well as the topo pic dating, the place was probably built in the 30's. It looks like the stone lintels that were across the tops of the windows inside the house were taken out. I bet someone salvaged them along with the windows after the place was abandoned. I have a suspicion the place burned. It looks to have an intact roof in the 1934 aerial pic.

I love old places like this, if you get more pics or information please share it!
