Hi everyone,

Here is the result of my todays hunt in forest, located 5 min away from my home, in France near Lyon.
A small hunt of only one hour just to relax abit after on week of hard work.

So, 30 min after beginning, here is the first sound on the surface : one "5 sols aux insignes" from Louis XIV, the coin was really on the ground in the forest, I moved it with my boot when I remove the layer of dead leaves !!
Few inches away, another sound, another silver coin 15 centimeters in the ground. Then another, etc.

Results :
- 3 silver coins "5 sols aux insignes" of king Louis XIV dated 1702 and 1703 (one very beautriful, one average and the last very slick)
- 1 silver coin "4 sols aux deux L" of Louis XIV dated 1691 (quite good)
- 1 billon coin "quinzain aux 8 L" of Louis XIV (in a very poor condition)
- 1 unidentified copper coin
- a pin buckle "fish tail shaped" (maybe from the same owner who might have fall there)

Incredible finds! I visited Paris last year. Wonderful place to see! Everywhere we went I imagined metal detecting... the woods on the grounds of Versailles would be amazing to detect! I read that you are not allowed to do it in any public spaces which is different than here in the US. Can you shed some light on what it's like to metal detect over there? Thanks for sharing the finds.

Love those silver coins - very old and great detail on them! Your "pin buckle" looks like the chape from a shoe buckle of the same period as those silver coins you found

Beautiful old coins! :icon_thumleft:

The 1703 five sols aux insignes - a beautiful coin in great condition - was minted in Lyon (D mintmark) and the 1691 four sols aux 2L comes from Metz (mintmark is a crowned M).
