Today's hunt had me doing "cartwheels"!

Hey folks. Put the E-Trac through its paces today and it served me well once again! Scored a coin that it totally toasted (no ID), an IH that has seen better days, not one, but TWO 1797 Cartwheel pennies!!!, a gold gilt button, a silver plated? button, silver plated spoon (1847), a kids military toy, buckle and a cool shaped whatsit. Wish I could have spent longer than 2 hours there! Thanks for looking. HH

Those are some nice finds for a two hour hunt. I'm sure there's more waiting to be found when you go back.

Awesome hunt.:hello2: Out of curiosity, what did those cartwheel pennies ring up as on your detector?

They were 6-8" and surrounded by iron. Once I moved the iron, they rang in at 11:42-11:44

Looks like you have a great site to hunt there! Congrats!

Fantastic hunt, Ace! I love your thread title. :laughing7:

Can you post a close up of the toy? I love those old toys...

Happy hunting and keep'em coming! If you need any E-trac help, let me know.

Great coins! Nice finds! Lots more I'm sure. H Digs

I'm stunned that you would find one cartwheel , much less two - how far apart were these found ? I have to think this/these
cartwheels found in Canada apparently ? are a very rare find , Am I correct in this ? I maybe remember one cartwheel found
this side of England . If I'm off on the rarity of this in North America please correct me !

Thanks Gio. I may take you up on that offer! I'm working right now, but I'll send a close up of the toy to Meditech, and he'll forward it to you.

They were about 15' apart. I'm thinking I was on top of a buried foundation/cellar. I almost had a stroke when I pulled the first one out, but when I had the second one in my hand, well...I can't explain it. I was shaking like crazy! I'm not sure how rare it is, to be honest. Maybe someone else will know. Hoping to get back there within the next week. Busy schedule, but that site may require a sick day from work lol. It's almost cleaned out of good signals. Some iffy ones I didn't have time to dig, and a crap load of iron. I'm going to dig as much iron out of there as I can, then check it next year if I still have permission.

Someone like Iron Patch would know. He's like a level 100 XP Wizard.

He'll be able to tell you how rare they are. I haven't found one yet... nor has CB. They're rare in my book, brother! :)

Jews harp great finds

Wow in just two hours, can't wait to see what else you find with more time there.
Great going, can't wait to see more!

HH

Thanks! I'm at work right now, so I'll get you a closer pic of the toy in a few hours when I get home. Not sure of the date, but it says Canada on the gun. I have to research it.

Good finds.

I'd love to get a cartwheel, esp. a 2P

Not sure of the rarity over here, but I do know one guy who has dug at least two or three. Other than that I recall one posted a year or two ago.

Yep, IP would know.

I suppose like any 1700s coin you need to be in the right kind of place, they won't show up just anywhere.

I too would like a 2, pretty sure I've never had one.

To the OP,
I don't think I've had 2 pennies in a day either! Congrats

I've dug a 2, and Romeo has also, but definitely a tough one to cross off the list. The 1 pennies turn up quite a bit, but I don't recall too many hunts with someone finding two. I imagine Ironhorse has done it once or twice or three times, but not me. But he hasn't dug a 2. ;)
