I went to a new site today with my hunting buddy. I only found 3 keepers but one made my day. I also remembered a valuable lesson and that is dig every signal at a new site.
My very first signal came in as a 27 on my DFX and normally, I would have passed it off as a pull tab. But, this one was a 2" long metal arrowhead! It dates from the late 1700s-early 1800s. I also found a round ball and a minie.
The arrowhead is very rare for this neck of the woods and this is the only site they have been found at. My buddy found one several years ago along with two broken ones. So this is only the second whole one to come out of this site.
Andrew Jackson visited the Indian village here in 1812. But, later, Georgia troops mistakenly took this as a hostile site and killed seven of it's inhabitants.
My round ball may have been from those troops. I think the minie is a late 1800s vintage.
