While digging in my back yard in Texas, I found this gold brown rock, it looks like petrified wood? Am I correct? And while I'm at it, this second picture is a rock that I've had for 30 years. It came from an old professor who had a rock collection from all over the world. Does anyone know what it is? It's about the size of a basketball and weighs more than I want to pick up.
Thanks for allowing me to join. I've always been digging around never knowing what I've found but I have quite an interesting collection! The plants growing on this rock are tiny little plants about the size of your fingernail.

Thanks again,
Vicki

it sure could be petrified wood...it is a salicious stone that is of the chalcedony variety. the big rock looks like iron pyrite in a quartz matrix, with some other minerals like lead, galena etc. ...the sort of thing that you would find mining...i have similar ones taken from old silver mines.
