I took a well needed vacation day today - went to the auction and picked up three box lots of Hallmark ornaments (3 x $15). Should treat me well. I was so disappointed with how expensive the jewelry lots sold for that I decided to stop by a recently found thrift store. There, in the case, set two lots of mismatched jewelry pieces. At $4.99 each, what did I have to lose? I felt like such a child, tearing the packing tape away from the top of the ZipLock storage containers. First spotted a lovely 14k stick pin. Wow, these lots had to be good. In the end, this was the nicest piece by far, but I did find a cameo stick pin, a 10k heart shaped locket, several pure silver pendants, and about 50 additional grams of sterling! All in all, not too shabby for $9.98 + PA sales tax (6%)!! (Not to mention, enough costume to easily recover the initial investment.)

Only the tops/bottoms of the ornament lots...but it gives you some idea of how many I picked up for $45!

Your single aren't you?

Very nice pin. Post a good shot of the cameo if you get a chance.

Nice buys. Thanks for sharing...

These two pieces tested at pure silver - any ideas? There is a small impression on the back if the eye pendant, but nothing readily noticeable on the profile.

This poodle also tests at pure silver, but I can honestly say that I haven't perfected the silver testing to the same degree as the gold.

..and then this piece dates from 1973 - marked STERLING one the side of the coin. Couldn't get any decent pics.

Nice finds.

How are you testing the silver? My jeweler told me to scratch the silver on the stone, and then put 18K solution on it. It will turn bright blue if it's sterling.

Dang! Good score. Is that a makers mark on the right side of that 14K stick pin? The style and design look a strong candidate to be a piece from the maker Liberty & Company. I can't see the mark also well. If it is L & Co. that would sure up the value of that piece. This is just one of the marks they used.

I had a cameo that I was trying to unload for $25 locally. One jeweler friend told me to put it on Ebay for a hundred. As a joke, I did. I figured; what do I have to lose. It sold BIN for $129 hours before the auction was supposed to close. Look in some of the Warman books for the price on those. I hope you get a lot for it. It is very pretty, and I don't like stick pins or cameos!

I like the locket and several other pieces as well. Good finds!

I bought a kit on eBay. It had the 10, 14, 18, and 22k gold solutions, along with a platinum solution and silver solution. The silver turns several different colors depending on the purity of the silver.

It is nearly impossible to make out the mark entirely. I'll take a closer look now that I have a lead. I'll let you know what I find out.

I don't think the mark is from Liberty and Company. See attached close up.

Well maybe not L&Co. It does have the style of the era and a signed gold stick pin is better then an unsigned piece. By the way I've noticed your starting to knock it out of the park on some of the gold jewelry finds lately. The Cartier piece kind of blows me away. You change some tactics there kiddo? I have to admit, I got a bit jealous over that find, but still very much commend you on such a great score. I tip my hat to you and I say onward we go. Nice job:thumbsup:
