So here I go to a park. Minding my own business not tearing up anything and just using a screw driver to pop the coins up. No holes. Let me repeat that no holes. Some city park guy comes up to me and says you can't metal detect here. He stated the detectorist in the past tore up the sprinklers. I told him I can tell what a sprinkler is and I am only looking for silver. The GTI 2500 can show that. He said well I'm sorry you must go. I asked are there any signs posted he said no. Instead of getting in a confrontation I just packed up and left. Collected $2.00 in quarters $.50 dimes and plenty of nickels and penny's for a grand total of $3.38.

Lots of junk. After I left took a drive to imperial beach. On my way back I drove past the park and here is another guy MD'ing oh well. Never heard of parks being off limits for MD if they are should post signs. This was a park in Chula Vista on Palm Ave.

You gotta watch for something else as well. A groundskeeper who has a buddy who detects. So, he tells everyone they have to leave. Except his buddy. I've seen it happen. (Oh, and by the way? He does NOT work there anymore. :) I saw to that. )

Sometimes though, getting chased off somewhere is more like getting chased to something. Many times the 2nd place has been better for me.

HH!

HH that would not surprise me at all. I just don't like the confrontations. That's why I left. Heck at least got coins out of it.

I've run into the "only off limits for you" syndrome before myself.Good you got his butt booted out too!.....

Come to think of it the guy MD' ing that I saw later did favor the guy. Dang I should have stopped. Well at least I'm going back north to the desert there are some areas up there that are prime. I belong to GPAA so they have some good claims to detect.

I do like your attitude concerning the whole affair.............A good man in my book..............HH

Thanks HH

It happens to me from time to time. There is no rule but the interpretation Is up to the individual.

Like a wise man once told me, "One monkey don't stop no show!" Good job to move on. Plenty of places to enjoy the hobby.

I do hate hearing that park guy ran you off. It would be something to find out HE is the one detecting, especially after him running you off.

With my "cattiness", if he had said that to me, about someone tearing up the sprinklers, I'd a probably smart mouthed him and asked, "why he was laying down on the job the day the guy tore up the sprinklers and didn't run HIM off!?"

You know it was really ok. After having a day to think about it. It was all good. Just have to pay attention more. I could have said something but I didn't. Next time will just have to see.

Now I must tell you that after I left I was driving west. Looked to my right and here was some kid probably not a kid appeared to be spraying graffiti on a wall in broad daylight. Same time I passed a San Diego county sheriff passed also didn't even stop. The cop was in the right lane. He had to have seen the guy.

Well received a reply back from the parks. Glad I wrote them. Additionally liked how the director answered my mail. Good for them.

Hi Mr.

Currently, there is not an issue utilizing a metal detector on our park grounds, as long as the person utilizing the metal detector does not disturb the turf(no digging and/or poking of turf grounds). Any metal detectors findings above the ground surface can be picked up.
