Went hunting in Caldwell Sunday with Burdie and MG. Found this item all folded up. I rinsed it and unfolded it the best I could. One thought it might be a snuff box, another a cigarette case, ?.
You can see the hinges and the letters J.T. carved on the lid.

Agree. Flip top cigarette case. Looks short - like for filterless cigarettes... From a time when men were men and women weren't - 1920's - 40's...

I agree with DCMatt!

Here in Idaho the men are men. The women are men, and the sheep are nervous.

Could it be a pill box? Also look at the corner of yours. Is that a LYRE and could it be for something musical?

Stoney the guy might of been related to you. His name was Jeff Tumbler and he died of lung cancer in 1939. :icon_jokercolor: Just kidding. A cool find by the Master hunter though.

The little LYRE in the bottom corners may indicate that this was of military use. I know that symbol is still used in military buttons today. JMO ;D

lyre = a symbo; irish folks often use ---- also cigs in the oid days were very short -- no filters of any type --think of old fashioned non filtered "lucky strikes "-- folks today would not thing of smoking unfiltered smokes . by and large

It doesn't appear large enough for smokes. What's the size? How thick when closed?

It's about palm sized, will give the measurements later. As for thickness, it's all flattened but would estimate less than 1" when it was closed and in one piece. The 2 halves were folded in half and looks to have either been plowed or hit with a disc.

Stan, ROFL.

Thanks y'all. We'll get this thing figured out with y'alls help.

I saw an antique playing card case like this once. I am not saying that is what it is, I agree it is probably a cancer stick case; just reminded me of the case I once saw.

Yours seems hinged as to open long ways... all the ciggy cases I see open the other way.

Or am I wrong?

Business card holder?

The only thing is the cig cases I've seen has some kind of arm that holds the cigs from sliding around. There's no place I can see that one was attached.

It could very well also be a calling card case. What are the thickness measuurements. Aprox?
Just might be one. I think this one falls on the line between the two.

OK, as for thickness it is pretty shallow, but it has been flattened. So it could be a calling card or business card case. ???
