it's still silver and still a half real! I found a similar one last year, and the only thing I vould read was the date...lucked out

hey a reale is a reale toast or not ! Great score !

Yep, I know the bittersweet feeling- you find very old Spanish Silver, which is tough enough, then you don't the get satisfaction of knowing the date. I found my first 2 Reale last week, totally worn smooth with no visible marking. We'll get 'um next time!

Thanks all for the comments. Bookfisher i hear ya , not many show up.
Like to nail it when it does.

Nice recovery! As soon as I find a coin with a hole in it I'm going to put it on a necklace.

Congrats on the 1/2 Reale.

I found my toasted 1/2 reale earlier in the week. One lunchtime hunt produced the 1/2 Reale, a seated dime, merc and war nickel plus a few wheaties. All from a 20'X20' section of a local park. My Spanish Silver count is up to four (2 milled and 2 cobs)

Happy Hunting

id take a toasted reale any day of the week,I have been on a silver slump so far this year.

Congrats on your find! Even if you can't find a date, you may be able to narrow it to a small time period. I found a similar holed half real that was worn smooth on the date side, but the opposite side had enough legible writing to identify as being a Carolus III. I was told the coin had to have been minted between 1759-1771. I wouldn't be surprised if your coin is just as old or older. Can you post larger photos of both sides of the coin?
