To dig or not to dig???

In years past, people used "springs" for their water supply. They often built curbs out of wood, brick, culverts,even hollow tree trunks. When they were no longer needed they would cover them for safety.
The concrete will most likely have steel reinforcement in it. Might be old used grader blades or what ever was handy.......
Here's hoping its the find of a lifetime for you, but..............................................
dig that sucker and then we will know.

"Once I get the area cleared under the lid - remember the lid sticks out about 6-8" past where the bricks start - I will stick my 2-ton floor jack under the lid(with proper 2X8 under the jack and 2X4 on top of the jack) and lift the lid just far enough that I can:
1) use my pinpoint probe to see if the metal is in the lid - in that case I will lower it back down. "


Please before you give up, if it is a spring or a well, send a strong magnet down there just in case - even if the lid is metal reinforced, that does not mean there is not something in there.
