I've always been a lover of old stuff.

Since ebay, one can buy almost anything one can imagine. Thanks to ebay, I've held in my hands items that 10 years ago could only be seen through glass at a museum.

One thing I have discovered, however, is that purchased old things get boring after a while. And on top of all this I find myself wondering about their authenticity. Are these really 2,000 years old? Did this piece of eight really come from the Atocha? It has been found out that many bogus Atocha coins have been sold with fake certificates (I think this is just the tip of the iceberg).

You know, unless we dig it ourselves, or bring it up from the ocean floor, how do we know for sure it?s the real thing?

I've just decided not to buy anymore high priced old goodies. I will find them myself or go without.

Now, the items I've dug myself never seem to become boring. I have coins I dug 37 years ago and they still mean the same today as they did back then!

It's all about the thrill of the hunt and find. When I show someone one of my artifacts, I want to be able to say I know this is the real thing because I found it.

What are your feelings or thoughts?

thats ok DigEmAll! i found something better!..........VIRGIN MARY FRENCH TOAST!! ;D

last i saw the pancake has it's first bid. I believe this is the real McCoy. I seen it myself.

Getting back to the original question.....I love digging coins.....and the thrill is because they are "almost" free...unless your detector was a gift or you stole it.

I spend clad coins that I find....on silver. NO, it's not quite the same as digging them...because they have no memories attached to them....where it was found, how deep....who you were with..all that stuff that's important to us.

I have this vision of filling a chest with about 40-50 pounds of silver....all from money derived from this hobby, or with actual coins and jewelry I have found...it makes no difference to me. Since Oct 1st 2005, I have found 58 silver coins.....and bought another dozen with crusty old clad. I'm nowhere close to my goal....but goals should be set high....then you try to exceed them.

It depends much upon the individual, but that's how I approach it. I've had an interest in coins for nearly 40 years....and you have a better chance of unearthing a rare coin that of buying one from a dealer....."unsearched" my butt.

what tests could they do,, see if the circumference of the pan they have marries up with the pancake, he obviousley ate pancakes then if they want to test it lol, what the other two tests could be i aint got a clue,, maybe does it contain lemmon juice,, did he or dident he like it, and how burnt did he like em he he ! makes you wonder thoe,.

some things I like I can't dig up...like a pope pancake. So EBAY serves it's purpose and when the ground is froze I can hunt for good deals on those things there. But if there's a chance I can did it up, I'm not going to ruin the fun and buy one. Though I like to check similar items to my finds to get a feel for what they are worth. I can sell things a bought but if I found something it represents the day and the memory of the fun I had. I'm getting awfully junk &*$!ed though if you know what I mean.
Maybe I should take a picture and sell it all. On the other hand, I enjoyed going thru my grandpa's junk, so maybe my kids and future grandkids will feel the same way. Some of his junk happened to age into treasures.
oh well until I'm out of room, I'll just keep collecting.

The pan cake will end soon. We'll see where it finishes at. It has 8 bids the one guy wants it really bad.
