JB, he did not say you lie, he said your link posted contained lies, there is a difference.

Considering your source is left wing web site why would you expect us to believe it is unbiased any more than you think our sources are?

Because regardless of the linked website's left wing stance, the article I posted cites all its sources.

Works both ways too....

Rep are doing what their voters want them to do....

House passed a bill funding the government, with provision to delay the nightmare called obcare I year

All the Dem have to do is to vote yea on the House bill, delay the nightmare called obcare for 1 year and nothing is shut down.

If it gets shut down it is Dem that shut it down...Option to fund government is there.

Have nothing aginst poor people or the people using EBT cards legitimately. Our gripe is about the millions abusing the system. I see it daily, baskets full of groceries paid for with EBT cards, then taken out and loaded into new SUVs and other high dollar vehicles with $2000 spinner wheels on and driving off in style and I mean I see it all the time!

As far as social security, I have been paying in to it for 52 years, it is money I paid out. Give me every dime I paid out, that my employer paid out ON MY BEHALF and the interest on both and I will take it and not draw any SS.... I have paid and earned that money, how did they earn their free food cards?

I k ow what you mean. I've worked retail for a while and at midnight on the first they line up. They come in kids in tow buying up beef jerky, pop, and candy in multi sacks full. I asked someone one day why they "shop" there like that said they can't get to walmart. I said I'd give them a ride they turned me down. Came home and thought about what they said and it hit me, there's a save a lot a block away! I understand if you want a sandwich to hold you over but it's 12 at night you can't wait 8 more hours? Most of which you'll be asleep. The worse was the kids in there at night, shouldn't they be at home in bed? I know that that's who the real problem is not the ones who use it like my wife and I do, but by taking it away from the abusers it's going to hurt the ones who use it right. The gov has no sense of how to regulate, their theroy is just take it away problem solved.
I seem the guy who said no one on treasurenet is poor if they have a CPU and Internet, my Internet is 10 bucks a month that I pay for by MDing change, the md I have was bought for 10 bucks at a GS that I paid for by picking up cans and recycling them. When that intro rate for my net goes up you won't see me on here again cause its cancelled. When the batteries run out in my md I won't be able to go till I can afford a new one. As far as my CPU goes I use a iPod that my wife got for Christmas as a gift from my parents be ayes it was the last time we were ever getting a Christmas gift since they were divorcing. We are the age where we will never have opportunities that the people before or after us will have. We are truly the lost generation our only source of income is service jobs. When were in school we were groomed to be labor era, construction workers, buticians stuff like that. Now most of those jobs are gone or slowly coming back. But we're at the age where employees think we're losers since we don't have a stable career, well we couldn't my first factory job shut down 6 years after I started. Then I bounces from job to job as they all went belly up. I'm a certified carpenter because that wax the hot field for men we were told by the so called gov job consulers in our schools. That's all there is in my town is out of work construction workers and factory workers so its just about impossible to get anything that I have experience in.

Also just to throw it out their I didn't ever mean any disrespect to my elders or muons else but the abusers, it was just a example to get my message across. Thank you everyone for making this a interesting thread, and God bless all and hope you all do well in life.

NaD,

There in lies the problem, because there are no checks and balances, no accountability or over seeing by gov the people like yourself who truly need it and deserve it are grouped together with the parasites that abuse it.

They regulate the hell out of businesses that make money and do nothing to be sure the benefits given away for free are going to people who need it and not abusing it

My apologies if any of my posts ever hurt your feelings, just know I/we were never talking about people such as yourself.

My next door neighbor is a carpenter, he is unemployed, he has worked off and on for last 3 years, hired by major builders then laid off couple months later each time. He has been off work at least the last 9 months this time and can't find work.

A big part of problem now is his age, he is 63, people don't want to hire him or want him to work for nothing. He was job super for major home builders and can't go back to trim work, he can no longer crawl around on his hands and knees.

His saving grace is his wife is a registered nurse, she is also just recovering from breast cancer surgery. The good part is they invested wisely and he is trying to hold out till 66 to draw SS. He is still looking for work, but the "recovery" BO says is happening is a figment of his imagination....

BO knew nothing about building economy and everything he does stifles the economy.

The best way to revive the economy is to get the government out of it, its over regulation of business is what is killing the economy.

N&D, people like you are, truly, "salt-of-the-Earth". You know how to get things
done, and done right, but as you say the world's changed since we went
to school. You've got my respect for making the effort.

Here's something I often share with young, high school age people who don't
seem to have the slightest direction in life, have poor grades and absolutely no plans
of going to college. Most times, I can see the "lights" coming on in their eyes, as
they realize they DO have opportunities for a successful working life, and it's usually
in a field related to something they already have a great interest in.

_______

"For someone willing to work, there are always opportunities..and I don't
mean min. wage ones. Indeed, there are loads of positions out there requiring
a Masters just to have an application considered, but there are also those
jobs you can get simply because you're considered "The Best" at a particular skill.

I graduated from a college-prep HS in 1977, and attended only one semester
of community college before I got sick and tired of "school". So, instead of
working part-time as I had since age 15, I went to work full-time.

Wasn't long and I could see there was little future for me in fast food, so,
I started hunting for something a bit more challenging, and was accepted
for a job installing for a TV system in So. Cal. It included several weeks
of training, as this was a unique thing at the time, and once I went to
work I continued to try and learn anything and everything about "how" the
system worked. Never quite understood all the physics involved, but
the rest came to me rather easily because I was interested in the subject...
..all I had to do was ask the right questions of others, and then invest the
time hands-on to apply it all.

Combined that knowledge along with some sales skills, and by the age
of 22 I was working as in inside sales rep. for a cable TV parts manufacturer
making a decent living for anyone my age, and better than most my age that
were just getting out of college.

Point is, it's all a matter of finding something you truly have interest in, and then
putting in the time to learn as much practical info on it as you can manage.
Then, put it to work, even at a entry-level job, and continue to learn more
about that one area you want to specialize in. Once people learn of your advanced
knowledge of that one area, who do you think they'll be coming to with their
questions?

What do you enjoy doing the most? What's your dream, or passion? Find part of it
that requires a specific skill set, whether it be product knowledge, a specific task, etc.
and then tear into the subject, learning as much as you can absorb. Then, put it to
practical use and find a position with a company/business that requires that specific
skill. Many companies will overlook a lack of formal education when in place of it is
in-depth knowledge of "the task" and hands-on experience.

We have to make our own opportunities, and be willing to take the
risk (and advantage) of the opportunities when they are presented to us.
As a young man in somewhat the same spot you're in, I finally
concluded that if I wanted to live a good lifestyle then I'd have to
find a way to earn the same as college grads, but without spending the
money and time to get the education. Opportunities may not show up
every week, but it's being prepared to take advantage of them when they do.

I had to retire at age 52 because I just got too sick to work any longer, but, I
made a decent living all throughout my working career. Now, I'm poor too, as
3 ex-wives took everything I made up till 10 years ago, and bills pile up fast when
you're too sick to be out working.

BTW, everything you ever wanted to know about any subject can be found at the
local library, and all you need is a library card. Colleges and Universities are supposed
to be places of great learning, but as Will Hunting said about spending a fortune
attending Harvard.."..you can get the same education for a buck-fifty in late fees
at the local library..".

Ya gotta want it bad, but it's certainly doable. College is a great thing, but not everyone
wants to be a college student. Let the college grads take the high-end management jobs,
and they'll happily pay you $300 an hour to work on their broke down yachts...8-)

I like that dizzy what you tell them kids to give them hope. God was you for trying to help them kids get on track.

pippin,,,,you posted "millions abusing the system? post some facts along with the diatribe."
This is an excerpt from an article on the net. I don't know how accurate the figures are; I don't think anyone knows the numbers for sure but, welfare abuse exists. If you look at the figures of a "welfare income", where do you see any reason to hurry up and get off the teet?
Is welfare fraud a big enough problem with which we should even concern ourselves?
Let’s run some numbers to find out. According to the 2010 US Census Bureau findings, there are 114.8 Million families in the US. With 34.2% of US families “on welfare” (see related article: An Expansion of the Welfare State), this means that approximately 39.3 Million homes receive monthly welfare benefits. The Federal government expects to spend $451.9 Billion in 2012 on welfare expenditures. This averages out to roughly $11,500 annually per family or $958 per family per month.
If the fraud rate is only 2%-3%, how much money could it really be costing us? Well…these low rates would mean that roughly 785,000 to 1.2 Million families are illegally receiving welfare benefits. At the average rate of $11,500 per year, this is costing the tax payers between $9.0 - $13.5 Billion dollars every year. This is as much or more than the cost of teen pregnancy. (see related article: Homes Built on Sand) While the percentage may be small, the cost is still quite high. It isn’t enough to make up the $1.5 Trillion Federal budget deficit; but, it is still significant.

That article addresses how many are suspected of "welfare fraud". That would NOT include those that met the criteria to get on welfare and then decided it was a comfy place to stay and not make an effort to change their situation. That would put the figure much higher. Fraud and abuse are two different circumstances. Fraud would involve lying to get on welfare and abuse would be making no effort to get off. I'd have to agree that it would be "millions" abusing the system.

Its not the poor that need it that I have a problem with....Its the f:censored: family with two kids and one in the oven that is in the grocery store line in front of me buying thick steaks, and shrimp with soda, junk food and cookies, with the food stamp credit card type..."so we don't embarrass them with the old stamps".... by the way there was no hamburger ,hotdogs, milk,or eggs in their buggy....I stood there holding my hamburger and buns thinking WTF........To top it off they got into a 2013 quad cab truck.....again makes me wonder why I work a 40-50 week ,save money, only to see the almighty gov.....take $$$ from me and give it away so easily,,,,...I should have followed them and begged for food....lol not.......Whew,,blood pressure rising.......... and no I cant spell thanks  on welfare? that's cool... lay down while I put this norplant birth control in your arm,,,,itll wear out in 5yrs,,,,lol

..I grew up poor my whole life...and when i mean poor, I mean living in a one bedroom house in the white trash part of town....2 sisters..1 brother....I slept in the Dinning room with my brother and my sisters slept in the Living room..My parents NEVER had Gov assistance...My dad was a painter that didn make squat for a living...and this was during the 80s'-90's.

Im not knocking people that need assitance for food or whatever...But in MY opinion...its just a crutch to keep them going...I think the more people want to "Help"...the less people want to help themselves.

Being dirt ass poor my whole life, i relized i never wanted to live the way my parents did ...and i busted my ass working to finish HS..I paid for myself to go to college ( took me 10 years)...and the sad thing is, I make more money than my dad ever did..

I think if you truley want to make it work..YOU can....I learned to budget myself to adjust to my pay level...and I actually have a very good job, but will still live cheap the rest of my life...and I will instill this to my 2 boys...I try my best not to spoil them..but to make them understand the true value of work and money.

I know there are many different levels of wealth with people....but its all about priorites.....Like when i see people BEGGING on Craigslist for help....it just makes me sick

If you cant afford food...Than sell your Damn computer...Cancel your 150 Cell phone bill...and stop waiting around for a HANDOUT!!!

I've been unemployed for over a year, 57 yrs old, tryin' to live off my savings and my wife has an office job for a small construction co...always unstable in this economy. I get no benefits of any kind...The other day I was in line at the convenience store and the lady in front of me bought a boat load of groceries with the food card...nothing wrong with that if she is truly needy...but...but...but,,,,then she pulls out two twenties and a ten in cash and says, "Give me fifty dollars worth of powerball tickets!" What? I don't mind a needy person spending "my money" on food, but please don't spend "my money" on lottery tickets!!!

...And yes it is "my money" you are spending, because the US Government has no money of it's own, none, period! It only has what it takes from citizens in the form of taxes and gives to others, some of whom use it for things like lottery tickets....wake up America!!!!!

ok..i agree there are a herd of people abusing the system...

but cutting children and old people off the only source of food an health care due to some criminal activities...

absurd...lets outlaw sunshine cause it causes cancer.

It's the abusers we are complaining about and only the abusers, please understand that. To bring up the truly needy is changing the subject, and changing the subject will lose you points on a debate team! The original poster, (respectfully), brought up the subject of those who "complain" about food card holders...we are trying to explain that our complaining is meant for those who indulge in the criminal activity of fraud, not the needy folks who are legit. I know plenty of folks who are abusing the various handout systems, and honestly none who are legit, truly. It's the folks who can earn but won't and believe they are "entitled to my money" instead that I personally "complain" about, not those who are legit.

And the "outlawing of sunshine because it causes cancer" metaphor that you added is just the the comment I need to illustrate my point...wait for it...here it is...

It is those who "abuse" the sunshine that risk the cancer, not those who act "responsibly" during their time in the sun...see the connection?

Same with life...those who live responsibly and with self discipline who need help should get it until they are back on their feet! But the irresponsible who lie around doing nothing but collecting "my money" are material for the "complaining"...just as the "irresponsible" hikers and beach goers who walk and lie around in the sun getting the cancer you mentioned will be the ones who drag down the coming Obamacare system...it's only the abusers who are ruining the country, not the legit.

...Wake up America!!!

sorry, I am not here for points...

the slogan of the NSDAP was: " GERMANY AWAKE!"
not a good choice for those historically minded

Damn! When is your next show? You can't get comedy like that anywhere here in Arkansas!

Think real hard ... who in Germany got food stamps at all?

NO ONE LIVED OFF THE GOVERNMENT DOLE EXCEPT THE MILITARY!!

The week and infirm were KILLED to keep the Aryan race pure.

The rest, who didn't work, didn't eat. There was no public welfare.

And yet, when der Amerikan Fuhrer is compared to Adolf Hitler, I bet you pitch a b**** fit.
