Tips/Insight into river Ferry landings

Hi All

I've researched and planned for a MD Hunt, specifically at the site of the old ferry landings, the earliest crossing points before road bridges were put in place. So my question is this-

Have you ever hunted Ferry landings, and if so, how did it go? How far down did you have to dig? Any luck at all? Any insights?

I am also getting ready to search an old ferry landing. My family just bought some land where there was an old town standing back about 1820. I have located aerial photos and plat maps of this town. I even have names of owners of each home. So far I have found the location of town square and tavern. I have just purchased a White DFX and can't wait for ground to dry up a little. Keep me posted on your finds.

While I have not personally dug at ferry landings, but I have friends that have. I understand that the depth you may have to dig depends on the current and sediment at the landing. Most finds were deep and old bottles are found too. Tons of junk on the sites also as the water was the place to toss anything to get rid of it.
