Found a very interesting piece tonight at my 1764 1 Real site. Everything here is 18th century. Except the usual canslaw and shotgun shells. Its a tiny little copper shell( half real for size reference) that was once gilded that appears to have a solid gold pin attached to the back. Also two odd holes on the back. Earring? UPDATE. Just modern junk lol

??? I didnt realize that settled it

***ARC looks around and realizes toasted is staring directly at him***

***ARC then looks for his bottle of Rum***

Ahh hem... um yeah... I think I will "settle in" now. :)

***ARC then realizes toasted did not fall for the "settle IN" ***

Ahhh ... OH... "IT" ... not "IN"... silly me... sorry.

***ARC begins to chug and guzzle more Rum***

Errrrr.... Um... Hold that thought !

Not quite the same but damn close !! Mine has a notched post and gold back. The post is gold too !! Hell to be honest I know nothing of its age !!

This IS your piece toast.

Earring.

I can see it now... Marilyn Monroe went out with JFK on a hunting trip...

She raised and fired and the jolt knocked her earring out !

This is the PG-13 version of what MIGHT have happened.

:P

Um... and if you dont wanna listen to your Tnet friends... like me...

Who have handled more items like this than you will see in your lifetime...

Then...

The Stone with testing solution will obviously be your only friend on this one.

Well you did say it was a tie tack or lapel pin at first and the quantity of early stuff at this site without any modern crap until now really threw me off

Yes i did... originally beings it was a single item I did...

Then if you read the next post after that i finished with the possibility of it being an earring.

Fair enough I will defer to you whenever I come across any annoying bycatch

One thing i remember got me right after i stated the ole tie tack which i did not recant / delete right away and regretted was the fact i sorta knew it wasn't a tie tack... or was pretty sure anyway due to the fact that tie tacks always have a "stay".. a small piece that sticks up barely beside the post that grips the fabric...

So... it will not twist... move to one side... or even upside down.

The "stay" looks like a tiny flat pyramid.

Your piece was lacking this which caused me pause... but not enough to recant or delete etc... DUE TO...

I was also hoping to be wrong and that your piece was much older and possibly PRE the whole "stay" invention.

Please excuse my crappy keyboard (it was once great)... my dyslexic mind...

And erratic shorthand... err or that is what i call it.

LAck of Rum does this.:)
