I went to campus this morning. I had a few hour to swing the CZ before I had other obligations. It was a cold 25 degrees with frost on the ground and the sun was behind the mountain so it was a cold start. But you have to go when you can and I am a die hard so away I went.
After a while the sun came over the hills and things warmed up. My fingers thawed and the rest of the hunt was great weather. Coins were coming nicely and I had just dug a penny. I put the plug back and pushed it down and swung the coil over the spot. A few inches from the plug I got a weak signal that did not sound very good so I started to move on. 2 swings later, about 10 inches away, I got a nice coin signal and dug a dime. When I put the plug back I thought about that iffy signal and went back. I dug the plug and waved the coil over the plug and the hole and got no signal. I ran the pinpointed in the hole and over the plug and still nothing. I pulled about half the dirt off the plug and tried again and got a faint signal. The pinpointed helped me locate the tiny piece of shiny metal. It turned out to be a little sterling fish earring missing the post. It’s not very big, but silver is silver and any day with silver is a good day.
All together 153 coins ($10.38) came out of the ground, along with a hot wheels car, 2 keys, a cheapy earring and 2 hand grenade fuses.
The fuses have been partly melted. How they got to the campus and how they got melted are a mystery. The funny thing about detecting is you never know what will come out of the ground. Sometimes it’s just trash, but if you keep at it the treasures will come as well.
Another good day of detecting. Hopefully the weather will be good tomorrow and I will see what else the campus has under the ground.
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
