This item was taken from the ground surrounding a 200 year old house. Dept was about 4" which in this area indicates 30's or older. It is a disc the size of a silver dollar. It appears to be a stamping or tooled image of a steeple chase. The disc is made of thin sheet metal and appears to be solid tin, not plated.

Re: **TIN STAMPED/TOOLED DISC

A picture of the back may reveal what it is. Maybe a horse rosette.

Re: **TIN STAMPED/TOOLED DISC

If it was at 4" it is probably not tin. Tin would be disolved before it got that depth. Because of the size, I'm thinking that it may be some kind of participation medal for a horse event. Tony

Hunter: The metal thin, It is punched or tooled Through so the image is seened from either side.
Tony: Tin does not degrade in the ground around here. Tin is used to line cans. That's why they are referred to as tin cans even though they are made of steel.
Copper:like to see your name on the right?

Pewter and pure tin are sometimes hard to tell apart.

I'm thinking part of a event participation pin? :dontknow: :icon_scratch:

Lucas: that is a possibility. I was thinking a lid cover for a fancy vanity set since it had no brand or ID.

Re: **TIN STAMPED/TOOLED DISC

That could be, or a cologne lid...

I have seen crowns and other cast tops for cologne. Maybe this one was a thicker version of a wine bottle type seal? Is it thin or pretty thick?

Re: **TIN STAMPED/TOOLED DISC

Lucas: About the thickness of a dime and the diameter of a silver dollar. Found where it looks like there was a shed at one time. It was part of the owners 50% of the finds. There was no rust but some discoloration. At the owners request, I colored it dull copper and coated it with urethane. I thought maybe the style would give it away. [ the long legs on the horse] but I couldn't connect it up. I think is older than it's dept of 4" would indicate. that would be late 30's/early 40's in this soil. I think it sat in that shed a long time before it hit the ground.
