It is not against the law to have a metal detector in a National Park as long as it has no batteries in it and dismantled as much as reasonably possible. Example if shaft is 2 pieces it should be separated..... I have had detector with me in several National parks including Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce....
