I bought this last Sunday at one of the big thrift stores in my area. They had just set some more watches out and this Seiko divers watch was priced at $24.99. It's not running, so hopefully a new battery is all thats needed. The condition is like hardly ever worn.

Nice watch!

Seiko serial number 256489 with a 7N36 movement would have been made in May of either 2002, 2012 or 2022.

Thank you RC. I know I would use an online Seiko date calculator at one time, but I hadn't got around to looking for it. That is a bit strange it would offer 3 possible options of the manufacturers production dates.

You're welcome.

Seiko use only one digit within the 6 or 7 digit serial number to designate the year of manufacture and one digit (sometimes a letter) for the month. That gives you the last digit of the year, and it’s month, which can be narrowed down to a number of possible decades.

You can then narrow it down further to a particular decade from the movement number but since some Seiko movements were made for more than one decade, there can be two or three possibilities. With a bit of research effort, the style then may (or may not) give you the actual date.
