I found this silverware at a thrift store in Tucson. Marked sterling. I paid twenty bucks. It weighs in at a little under 2000 grams. I need to separate the blades from the handles to get a final weight.
Score!!! Congrats!!!

What a bargain. 'Heirloom Sterling' was produced by Oneida. That's their 'Dover'' pattern designed by Ellen B. Manderfield and produced between 1968-2004.

You could try floating it on eBay for anyone who might be looking for replacements or wanting to expand their set before you resort to scrapping it. You might only shift some of it as replacements and then scrap the rest, but wanted pieces should do better than melt.

Thank you to everyone for the likes. I already sold everything except for the knives. I was paid 42 cents a gram. I'll separate the handles from the blades, with fire, if they are leaded. I'll use a hammer if they are resin. I regularly find sterling to scrap, but this size of a haul was extraordinary. I was high on adrenaline all day yesterday. These moments are special.

Good score. Biggest sterling set I've ever found was over 600 grams and I think I gave $60. for it. The other was some very old German .800 alloy I got at a flea market that I felt was most likely lifted by an American GI in spoils, because the booth had other keepsake articles from the WW2 era. It was like a total of 1400 grams and it sold as such on ebay many moons ago at scrap value. I stripped all the fill knife handles from that set. I've been frequently checking the thrift shops, but nothing for awhile now. Your find is premium silver and should have a higher value than spot as replacement pieces, as mentioned by RC.

Update! I separated the handles from the knives today. They had plaster holding them together.
