I have noticed that some expensive metal detectors (new & used) on e _ _ _ are offering buyer protection plans. A new Minlab Excal II had a 3-year protection plan with Square_ _ _ _ for something like $279. A used Excal II had a plan offered for one year, etc. I was surprised to see anyone offering extended warranties on metal detectors and wondered if anyone has had any experiences with these plans.

Many credit cards will double the warranty on new electronics, not sure why more buyers don't think of this. Turn a 3 year warranty into 6 years real easy.

Hmmm... I am disappointed that I didn't hear from anyone who had purchased an extended warranty on a metal detector, but maybe they just aren't very common. I just purchased a new Minelab Excal II on "the big E" and bought a 3-year extended warranty for $179. This could be a waste of money, I realize, but for three years, why not? I have no idea what Square _ _ _ _ will do about a claim for a metal detector, as repair facilities are pretty limited. I would encourage anyone in the future who has any dealings with extended warranties on metal detectors to share their experience with the Treasurenet community. Meanwhile, if I have to use my warranty, I will report back.

Extended warranty are a good buy at that price, a single repair can easily exceed that.
