I went back to the strip of woods where I had found some Barbers last week. No Barbers today, but I did find three pieces of silver. Last time I searched to the right in the woods. Today I went to the left. After I trudged through the woods for about a hundred yards I noticed a big tent was set up in there with alot of equipment around it some 50 yards further down. This was right in the spot that I had wanted to hunt. Hard to believe someone is living in the woods, as cold as it's been the last couple of weeks. Anyway, I turned around and resumed hunting in the direction I had come, not wanting to disturb whomever may have been in the tent. The first good target I came upon gave me a nice, big, silver signal. From about two inches down a nice, big, silver ring popped up. It's got a gold shield on it saying PONTIAC SERVICE CRAFTSMAN with the trademark head of Chief Pontiac on it. Next I got a sweet silver signal three inches deep next to a tree root. Turned out to be a nice 1939 Mercury Dime.

Also, when I was getting my stuff out of the back of the car, I noticed the outline of something silver laying in the bare frozen dirt. Picked it up and rubbed it off. Lo and behold it was a little, round do-dad that says sterling silver on it. No idea what it is. Maybe the cap off of a button or something.

Hears a head on view of the ring:

Inside view, It says STER and L G B inside. Anybody have any idea what L G B stands for? Hoping it has something to do with gold.

Next comes the Merc:

And here's the little, sterling do-dad: (Any ideas on it would be appreciated also)

Thanks for looking.

NICE finds! I love the sound of silver ringing in my ears.

Nice finds,

I am pretty certain it is the bottom of a cuff link. I have a few whole one's in silver.

Awesome ring

It is a service ring given to tech's upon completion of three years of training. There is a 1930's one on e-bay that advertises it as silver with a 10k gold insert. Yours appears to be the one from the 50's.

that ring is frigging sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love pontiacs!!!! ( speacialy after i built my 65 non clone GTO!!! ) MR TUFF

Wow....what a great ring. Initials may also be hallmark of company?, instead of the persons initials. Usually initials of person wouldn't be there. I love that ring, so cool!

I'm looking at your gorgeous ring and suddenly I realize that the symbols on both sides are arrowheads - of course, the Chief and arrowheads. My Pontiac has the same symbols on the hood and trunk but never before did it occur to me that the symbols actually are stylized arrowheads. Sometimes I scare myself.

Awesome finds - LOVE THE RING!!!! Yea I mostly hunt in the woods and more and more im seeing tents and shanties popping up...

That is an instant collectable . As you know Pontiac is no longer and it is a part of americana. In ten years ,any signs, advertising and else will bring big bucks to collectors. :coffee2: just saying . Rob

The initials LGB are for the L.G. Balfor Company origonally in Attleboro, Massachusetts, est. in 1913.
They also made military service medals as well.

Great find
