Three neat finds today including saddle shield & initialed lead
I hit an area today at the plantation house near a large rotted oak that had fallen. Within an hour I had a few keepers.
My first find was a decorative suspender clip.
Next I dug a long (12") piece of copper that looked like the rim of something. I rescanned the hole and got another signal. On the side of the hole, and to my amazement, I dug this saddle shield! I know it's just a plain one, but it still has leather & two nails attached.
The third keeper was a real suprise. I dug this flat lead piece up close to where I dug the saddle shield. It has an old patina like the CW bullets I dig. It measures approx. 2" x 3". I thought it was just junk until I got home and cleaned it off a bit. Then I saw the letters "M A G" scratched into it with a knife I'm assuming. Could this be plate related?
Any ideas what "M A G" may stand for other than someones initials?
Union troops camped in the area for months at the end of the CW, so I'm hoping it could be CW related.
Thanks for looking Folks,
MM
