You can call that number for free 24/7 and get advice from a medical professional including, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and paramedics to discuss any health issues not deemed to be an emergency (for which you would call 999). They advise on any course of action you should take and, if deemed necessary, can book an appointment for you at a local A&E / emergency department, urgent treatment centre, emergency dental service, pharmacy or other appropriate local service. If your condition is deemed serious or life-threatening, they can also send an ambulance. All services are free.
