About 18" long. Square stock. Pointed on one end and tapered on the other.
Figured it was a digging tool of some sort.

Then my dad said he had found something similiar that he thought had something to do with timbers.
His is about 24" long and pointed on both ends but same shape.
It's just laying there with other junk.

Any ideas? I'm thinking it's part of a wagon?

I have seen things similar to that used to drive into two logs to raft them together. I would think it would be pointed on both ends though. by being around a mine, a digging tool would be a possible ID.

They were hauling ore out by wagon.
It could have been repurposed scrap iron.

It's a log dog. Both ends would be pounded in to logs. You would then be able to hew one log with a broad axe to square it up.
