I know this is a Edison part of some sort, but to what??

It's 3" X 4" with 1/2" chamfered edges on both sides.
It has 1/8" edge and is 3/8" thick.

The "Top" has TRADE / Thomas A. Edison / Mark on it.

The bottom is blank and the shiny mark you see is where I put it to the wire wheel.

It seems to be incased it some type of metal, but a magnet does not stick to it!
It's very hard, as can be seen by what the wire wheel did to it.
On a corner where it has a chip it looks like it has a softer kind of carbon core.

now the weird part...
when I run a metal detector (MXT) over it, it doesn't register.
It only puts out a sort of hum and only when crossing over at an almost touching height

I have no idea what this may have been used for and hope that someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks
HH

Yes, I agree that is his signature. I think it could be the bottom part of an embossing seal.

Thanks for the thoughts on this.
I'm sure it is an Authentic Edison signature.
It was found in a late 1800's site.
I've just not seen anything with a part to it that resembles this.
Or know what it's made of or how it was used.

Oh well... The search goes on.....
