It looks to me like an old wooden hammer. I'm not sure why it would be so pointed unless they were trying to smash something or smooth it out. Possibly smashing fish in the head? /mytwocents

Looks like a vintage wood working mallet.

Correct.

It seems that most of the wood working hammers I have seen from the 18th - 19th century are made from two pieces of wood. How old do you think something like this might be?

I believe there places you can send it off to and get a carbon dating test done. That would tell you for sure if its 50 years old or 500 years old but I am sure in the hands of a expert they would be able to tell by the condition of the wood if its recent too modern times.

I think it's an old metal working mallet due to the shape like this one. I have never seen a wood mallet like this used for wood working.

Beats Me? It's made of wood and didn't float anymore. Looks old and weathered. Has a similar shape of the mallet on the ground of this old and somewhat exaggerated sketching. I'm thinking food processor of some kind? I wonder what their all cookin' :dontknow:

This could also be an old metalworking mallet. The wedged ends were used to shape the metal without leaving marks. Just a guess to go along with the other guesses. :)
