4 reale-- p = potosi mint --assayer ch -- pillars and waves 1697 -- heart shape -- quite rare and very worth while

What's the weight? It's not rare or valuable if the weight is way low. In fact, I can make you one in my basement....

Stan,
Please make me one like this...I'll buy it.
I really like this example...hopefully it turns out.
Pictures alone don't tell the story but I like the cover so far.

Thanks for posting this beauty.

make 2 if you don't mind, lol.

So this Reale was struck in the shape of a heart? Sorry I have not much knowledge in these coins only interest.
Thanks!

Why of course it was Ivan, it is so obvious, geeeez ::)

Trez, if I can find where I put the blades for my coping saw I'll cut you out a mini from a silver dime. Did you want two for matching ear rings? Ha! (PS, come see us on the CC forum).

that bit of info was mean for newbies stan ( lots of new folks know nothing about the rare heart cobs and would think they are post mint altered coins)-- clearly that tidbit of info was not for you

It appears that the hole was made by a nail with a cone point, heated enough to melt the silver.
Note the excess flashing around the edge of the hole.
I wonder if it was done after or during minting. I expect "during" because of the large flap.
Just thinking...
