What is this off of a car, wagon, or what? In my mind I have seen this object before. Any ideas appreciated. It is the top picture I am interested in the most. I know the place I found this object was active in the 1880's till 1930's. It is 5 inches long but is broken on the left side.

By golly I think you got it!!!!! I looked at this object and it looked so familiar. I thought it was old so I couldn't reason why it would be something I would have seen before. This summer I was at the Kansas State Historical Museum. They have a train inside and these children were pulling this rope and the mechanism was rocking on a cylinder that released the steam. I know now where I saw that image. Thanks!! Burdie

Eureka! After weeks of intensive and exhausting research, I think I have finally figured it out!

It is the petrified skeleton of a Gallus Elasticus!

;)

Hmmm, reminds me of an old cast iron flag mount. The one photo seemed to have some "stops" or projections so the flag staff couldn't slip through. Dunno. I'd rather find something weird like that than find a silver dime. But I'm kinda strange myself. ;)
