Looks like a nice find and I'm with the rest as far as wondering what it is. Desk nameplate ? Grave Marker ? Front porch nameplate ? It could really be any of them.
 

Can we get pictures of the back? I'm guessing it was stud mounted?
 

20200503_200955.jpg20200503_200914.jpg Its a desk name plate from I can tell. There are legs on the back side that support it at just the right angle. I've researched Major Smith with no luck yet. I found it in Alva, lee county Florida. I'm in the in the prosses of restoring it to its original state. In Hope's to return it to Ralph him self or a family member.
